INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY – 2019
While the International Women’s Day had been celebrated across the world, this year too, Marlbo organized a gathering on account of International Women’s Day at its office premises on 08th March 2019 as being a service to the community, with the participation of all female staff members and the Wives of the members of the Staff including their Mothers.
Besides, at the invitation of Marlbo a few female workers attached to the Colombo Municipal Council working in Colpetty region also attended.
And, at the cordial invitation of Mr. M. Maniymuthu, this jubilant occasion was graced by Ms. Lanka Amarasena, Superintendent of Police, Director-Child & Women’s Bureau of Sri Lanka Police and Mrs. Shobani Prathapasinghe, Former Deputy General Manager, International Banking Division of the People’s Bank.
An eloquent speech was delivered by Ms. Lanka Amarasena. To begin with she thanked the Management of Marlbo for having invited her to take part in International Women’s Day celebration and she went on to explain and shared her experience with the audience of the difficulties and harassment being faced by Women nowadays, at times due to their poor financial circumstances and also being illiterate. Ms. Amerasena cited a few incidents taken place.
During the impressive speech made by Ms. Shobani Prathapasinghe, she stressed the need to have a mechanism in place to safe guard the rights of women in work places and in public conveyance as those are some of the places where the women come under harassment and humiliation. Hence, the women empowerment is indeed a necessity she added. Finally, Ms. Shobani thanked the Management for the kind invitation extended to attend this invaluable programme.
Though we gained independence in 1948 still the women have not got their liberty in every aspect in the present society.
At the conclusion of the function, as a token of appreciation gifts were presented to all those who participated at the event and everybody was delighted having got the opportunity to participate at this occasion.
