Everyone across the world has been affected by COVID-19, our regular lifestyle as we knew it has come to a standstill. Most shops/businesses are closed, we are not allowed to gather in large crowds and a curfew is in place to limit the movement of the public.
At a time where everyone is safe within their residents there are a lot of people in this country who are sacrificing their time, health, money and other resources to ensure the utmost safety for this country. Everyday our health care workers put others first to treat the ill while risking their own health. Our forces of uncertainty. Grocery store employees strive to help everyone so that we have food to eat. Like this, there are a lot of citizens who put the nation’s best interest first rather than their own safety. It goes without saying, they should be acknowledged and recognized during this difficult time.
After the curfew was imposed, the Environment Protection Unit of Kollupitiya Police requested our assistance to help some of the municipality workers in the Kollupitiya and Bambalapitiya area. We offered the workers mid-day meals and dry rations to feed their families. We had shared our initiative every week through our Facebook page and were pleased to be informed by the police that other individuals have followed our lead to assist municipal workers in other areas. Also, to our pleasant surprise the Western Province Police Chief, Senior DIG Mr. Deshabandu Thennakoon graced us with his presence during the distribution of dry rations.
