Currently in Sri Lanka, the Government is making considerable efforts to manage both carbonic and non-carbonic waste through various national-level projects. While multiple initiatives have been introduced over the past decades, a comprehensive and effective solution for fiberglass waste management has remained a critical gap.
Recognizing this challenge, the current Government of Sri Lanka has put forward a major national initiative under “Clean Sri Lanka”, with a focused concern on coastal waste management, particularly addressing end-of-life boats, marine debris, and other fiberglass-based waste accumulating along the island’s coastline.
As part of this forward-looking initiative, the contract for the recycling of fiberglass waste has been awarded to Marlbo by the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward sustainable waste management and environmental protection.
Key representatives attending this occasion included Hon. Rathna Gamage, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Mr. B.K. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa, Secretary of Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources, Mr. Ajitha Kaveendre Edirisinghe, Chairman of Cey-Nor Foundation Limited and Eng. S. P. C. Sugeeshwara of Clean Sri Lanka Programme, along with the Marlbo team, including Mr. Neel Weedagama, CEO and Mr. S. P. Jayantha, Senior Manager – Machinery & Tools, highlighting the strong collaboration and mutual trust between both parties.
We look forward to the successful execution of this project and to building a long-term partnership that contributes positively to sustainability and industrial progress.
