The 8TH MARCH International Women Day has been observed since early 1900s and was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations in the year 1975.
Women all over the world have been struggling and clamouring for gender equality in political rights and parity of status.
In Sri Lanka too , this day has been celebrated for the past several years and to coincide with the Inteational Women’s Day falling on 08th March, Marlbo Trading Company had organized for a gathering of all female employees of Marlbo and its sister companies, namely Olex Projects (Pvt) Ltd., and Marlbo Projects (Pvt) Ltd., on 08th March 2017 at Marlbo Trading Company premises to celebrate this event.
This occasion was graced by none other than Dr. Nanda Wickremasinghe, Former Director General of the National Museum and the Secretary , Ministry of National Heritage who delivered a speech on the significance of Inteational Women’s Day.
Also Mrs M.A. Anula Indrani – Executive Director (National Committee for Women) Ministry of Women and Child Affairs had given some Awareness Brochures and Educational CDs, which were distributed among the participants.
